New Technology

This section

We expect to use this space to alert members of the profession to new technologies, devices, formats and procedures that are likely to effect our future. We do not intend this area to be used for overt promotion of new models - more a look at trends and problem solving developments - for example: some years ago our members noticed a tendency for multi-track tape to deteriorate and throw clouds of oxide onto the studio floor along with most of the music recorded onto it. Our protestations to the manufacturers resulted in a technique being developed to save the audio material by heating the tape first (to secure the oxide) and then making a copy onto a new tape.

Monitoring technological advances

In a studio context, it is primarily the audio producer and engineer who work at the cutting edge of technological change. Therefore all producers and engineers must understand the new technologies on offer and how these affect the recording process. Through Re-Pro's association with APRS, producers can influence the design of new products by providing manufacturers with vital end-user feedback. Members can also benefit from demonstration evenings organised in conjunction with manufacturers to provide advance information regarding new products coming onto the market.
