NEWS FROM RE-PRO

In the middle of the summer we heard the excellent outcome of the lengthy negotiations between the PPL and PAMRA [the Performing Arts Media Rights Association, of which Re-Pro was a founding member].

PPL accepted the new payment scheme by which performance income  from the UK and some overseas territories will be distributed to all those who make a performance contribution to recordings. Most Re-Pro members will qualify for a share in future payouts. The necessary legislation, to bring the UK into line with other EC countries and allow Re-Pro to deal directly with the users of recordings, still needs to be enacted by parliament.

• Also in June Re-Pro were sorry to announce that Gerry Bron had resigned as chairman. Gerry had agreed to serve late last year, but will now continue his other music industry interests. Previous Re-Pro chairman Robin Millar agreed to stand in as acting chairman until the groups next elections.
