INDUSTRY HONOURS AT APRS 'ISLANDS UNDER STORM' DINNER
The Professional Recording Association – APRS – hosted its second annual Awards Dinner at the Cumberland Hotel on Thursday, 12th November 1998, under the theme "Islands Under Storm". The dinner was sponsored by AMS Neve plc and was attended by over 300 guests drawn from every corner of the recording business. The Awards presentation celebrated the very different achievements of three talented individuals. Following a lively warm up by comic genius Phil Cool, APRS Chief Executive Mark Broad introduced the UK audio industry’s most coveted titles.
The winners were as follows:
Ken Giles, Ivor Drawmer
Stuart DeMarais, Jon Jacobs
Dave Clark, Adrian Kerridge, Mike Smith
AMS Neve once again sponsored the evening, with marketing director Colin Pringle commenting:
"Like many APRS member facilities, AMS Neve is a private company. For most of us, that means we are focused solely on the audio industry. We’re not part of a conglomerate. It’s therefore particularly good to meet informally and celebrate this close association at the APRS Dinner. There isn’t another occasion like it."
The evening was played out in uproarious style by The Funking Barstewards, who delivered a torrent of disco, funk and TV favourites with a suitably tongue-in-cheek approach.
APRS Chief Executive Mark Broad had the final word:
"This has been a year of change for many of us – reflected in our theme for the evening, Islands Under Storm. Having passed our 50th anniversary, the Association itself is accelerating through some pretty dramatic changes, redefining its role and purpose – evolving in response to changes in the market for professional recording. In this climate, it was especially good to welcome everyone to this celebration, bringing together the diverse talents of our industry under one roof. My thanks to the production team for an excellent effort, to AMS Neve once again for their valued sponsorship and the industry itself for joining in the celebrations."
