Spring 2001 |
TIME TO RING SOME CHANGES
Times are changing and your Association has had to change with them. Starting from late last year, the APRS has carried through an essential period of dramatic and sometimes painful development. This was undertaken in order to face, with the utmost enthusiasm and dedication, the challenges of this new and exciting technical era.
Late in 2000, despite minimal expenditure, the APRS found itself facing the direst consequences of financial starvation. Subsequently, many hours were spent and many avenues explored evaluating the most suitable and stable course to ensure the continuation of this vital Association. In the end, in order to preserve an organisational structure dedicated to fulfilling the many varied requirements of the sound recording industry, your Board decided that the best way forward is to return to the basic remit of every trade organisation - providing members with maximum benefits combined with efficient communication and representation, undertaken in the most cost effective and focussed manner. To this end, we currently are extremely fortunate that the very dedicated and affable Peter Filleul is presently acting as Executive Director, very ably assisted by the lovely Francesca Smith, our Chief Administrator. These two people are providing the lynch pin of what can readily be described as "the relaunch of the APRS".
This year as a member you will find that the creation of new initiatives will result in greatly improved benefits, and the proposed series of meetings and seminars covering many subjects will provide you with the most up-to-date industry information. These initiatives are dealt with elsewhere in the Newsletter.
I do foresee that during 2001 we will witness the development of a new, invigorative Association, throwing off the ostrich-like cloak of stagnation and applauding with enthusiasm this wonderful industry of sound recording in all its forms. I'd like at this point to put forward the reminder that this is your Association and the more effort that every individual can put in, the more everyone will benefit.
I have to relate that the Association has only limited resources. These, of course, will be maximised. However, if you are able to help in any way, all contributions - financial and otherwise - will be greatly welcomed!
May I wish all members a very healthy and prosperous year ahead.
Dave Harries, APRS Chairman
